Do you know how to pretend to be an animal? Do you know how to imagine being other creatures?
In Yoga, as we will see in the upcoming Eenie yoga lessons, Imagining is a very useful skill! If you can pretend to be an animal, then you can do yoga. And you just might experience what it feels like to be a hero or a lion or a tree swaying in the wind! Why would we want to do that? In the coming weeks, let Eenie share with you what this is all about.
For now we will concentrate on our hand movements to overcome fear and nervous habits and be calm. If you like, you can show all your family and friends too!
Mudras are hand postures which can change how you feel inside. Following the steps, each hand posture can be held for several minutes with eyes closed sitting on the floor in a crossed leg position.
Place your palms lightly together in front of your heart, without space between them. Standing or seated.
This Mudra, hand position, is a greeting of peace and respect coming from your heart. It says, "You are within me - as I am within you." As we are all one. It can help you feel calm and centered. Try it now and notice how you feel.
Connect your thumb and index finger, the left hand as well as the right. Rest your hands on your legs palms facing up or palms facing down. This position brings calm and can help you look inside yourself.
Mudra to instill courage and fearlessness
Hold your left hand with palm facing outward next to left shoulder. Feel fearless and courageous.
Handful of flowers mudra
Sit on your knees (hero pose) hands on your legs, palms facing the sky, fingers pointed diagonally toward each other. Each hand makes a cup. Close your eyes and fill your cup with whatever it is you may need: patience, love, health, joy, wisdom, etc.
Artist Rafael Cetraro speaks about the Joy of Art and Painting:
“To be able to express oneself through any form of art images makes you really happy. Every time I’m doing any kind of art, I feel free to create, to express myself and to forget about time - just my imagination roaming free to create, free to express.”
